Wiimbledon 2008 - the rulebook

All matches will be played according to the rules of Nintendo Wii (Sports) Tennis.  The console's decision is final..!

Furthermore:

1. Time & Location
1.1 Wiimbledon will be held on Sunday 29th June 2008 at The Welsh National Tennis Centre, Ocean Way, Cardiff CF24 5HF.
1.2 The competition starts at 10am promptly, and each entrant will be given an approximate start time for their first match. 
1.3 While the organisers will make every effort to accommodate late arrivals, any entrants who should arrive late for their scheduled match time risk forfeiting their place in the competition.

2. Eligibility
2.1 All players must be a minimum 12 years of age on the date of the competition.
2.2 All players must have achieved a level of competence in Nintendo Wii (Sports) Tennis - for example, professional status, as achieved with 1000 ranking points.
2.3 All players must be able to provide proof of age if requested. 

3. Competition structure
3.1 The competition consists of a Round Robin section followed by 3 knock-out rounds. 
32. Groups of 4 players will compete in the Round Robin stages, with the leading player from each group progressing to the Quarter Finals.  The leading player will be the player who wins the most matches.  In the event of a tie, points will be deducted for sets lost.  If required, a sudden-death match may be enforced between players contesting the lead position.
3.3 From the Quarter Finals onwards, the competition becomes a straight knock-out.
3.2 Each match is the best of 3 or 5 "sets".  In Wii Sports tradition, a "set" is defined as the best of 5 games. 
3.3 Round Robin matches will be fought as the best of 3 sets.  From the Quarter Final stages onwards, each match will be the best of 5 sets.
3.4 The organisers reserve the right to change the number of players in the draw.

4. Seeding
4.1 Players will be seeded according to their proven Wii Tennis ranking at the point of registration for the event. 
4.2 Up to 16 players will be seeded.
4.3 The draw will be balanced so that each group contains only 2 seeds, with higher seeds scheduled meet in the later stages of the competition. 

5. Gaming options
5.1 As Wii Tennis is a doubles-only system, all players must play as both doubles partners.
5.2 All games will be played using the 'showcourt' option.
5.3 Players can view the playback of each point on request, but are asked to show consideration for the other players by keeping to time.
5.4 Players can use either a standard Wii remote control or Wii racquet accessory.
5.5 Where possible, players should provide their own Wii remote control with their Wii character stored. 
5.6 The Wii remote or racquet accessory must be attached to the player's wrist at all times.

6 Entrance fees and cancellation
6.1 All players pay a standard entry fee of £25.00.  This is non-refundable and non-transferable. 
6.2 If and only if the event is cancelled for any reason other than Acts of God, a refund may be claimed, or proceeds donated by the organisers to a registered charity.

7. Prize money and charitable donations
7.1 Proceeds from the event will be donated to a registered charity, to be nominated by the Wiimbledon champion.
7.2 No other prize money is payable, but the winner will also receive a coveted Wiimbledon trophy!
7.3 Entrants may use the event to raise funds for a nominated charity by using the sponsorship form available in this website's 'Sponsorship' page. 
7.4 Entrants who raise funds for charity in the name of this event must give 100% of all funds raised to their nominated charity.

8. Publicity
8.1 All entrants and their guests give consent for the use of their image in promotional or publicity materials such as (but not limited to) media coverage of the event and reportage photography or filming of the event by the organisers or their agents.

9. Affiliation
9.1 Wiimbledon is not in any way affiliated with the Nintndo Corporation or the All England Lawn Tennis Club.  No-one involved in the event will state or imply otherwise.

10. Liability
10.1 Neither the organisers nor the venue will have any liability whatsoever to entrants or guests for the loss of personal items left on the premises either prior to, during or after the event.
10.2 The organisers and the venue accept no responsibility for any physical or mental injury sustained by entrants or guests, unless proof of negligence can be provided and substantiated in a court of law.
10.3 Players and guests will be liable for any damages caused to individuals or property, such as (but not limited to) accidents caused by Wii remotes or accessories.
10.4 The organisers reserve the right to make reasonable amendments to the terms of competition as necessary.

By entering the event, all entrants have agreed to the above rules.  Statutory rights are not affected.
